Potency bioassays are a key CMC release analytical method for biopharmaceuticals.  They typically the only method which assures manufacturers that new lots of product are biologically functional and similar to product used during clinical trials to demonstrate product efficacy.   Potency assays are biologically complex because of their unique link to the mechanism of action of the therapeutic product.
